The Solar Slice
Reshaping the environmental legacy of the music industry one ticket at a time.
What is the Solar Slice? The ‘Solar Slice’ is the name of a ticketing surcharge that is built into the booking fee of partner events as an industry commitment to prioritising sustainability. 1.5% is the suggested (but negotiable) surcharge price point to symbolically reinforce the 1.5-degree warming target of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Who can apply it? Anyone that sells tickets to an event. Touring artists, festivals, sports competitions, fun runs. If it’s ticketed, you can Solar Slice it up. The Solar Slice is pre-built into the ticket price by the promoter/artist before the event goes on sale, as a decision to bake a sustainability budget line into the DNA of the event. To be clear, this is not a box ticked by the ticket-buyer.
What does it fund? Solar Slice revenue is used to drive carbon reduction measures and high-integrity climate initiatives creating a positive environmental legacy at either a local or global level. We align projects with the festival's sustainability priorities where ever feasible, and in collaboration with the science-backed priorities our impact partners and the FEAT advisory board.
What are the outcomes? Jump on our socials to see the impacts we are driving. We are currently building out a detailed case study section, so check back soon.
How it works:
-
Get in touch with us a few weeks before tickets to your event go on sale
-
We add the Solar Slice to the ticket build via your ticketing provider (+$1 or +1.5%)
-
We create and deliver a Solar Slice impact program tailored to the sustainability needs of your event.
How’s it going? Since launching in 2022, the Solar Slice have been rolled out across 400,000+ tickets at Australia’s premier festivals and tours and achieved a range of measurable impact outcomes.
